Net2MAX in Your Country

[edit] 1 Introduction

Net2MAX Centres are ideally established fixed or mobile 1st Gen. Telcos in a country, with their own range of phone numbers and associated infrastructure. Although due to Net2MAX's community funded infrastructure and its ability to work in unlicensed frequency spectrum, even non-telcos can be Net2MAX Centres in some countries.

Depending on the local information and communication technology (ICT) market, there can be one or more Net2MAX Centres in each country. Their objective is to develop, support and operate a Country-Specific Community-Focused online MANAGEMENT environment to complement (NOT replace) existing 1st Generation Network Service and 2nd Generation Internet Services.

Although Net2MAX's distribution is focused at the local community level, Net2MAX Centre should have the capability to handle individual Net2MAX Members directly as well - both as a source for new communities and as a backup for disbanded communities.

[edit] 2 Rapid Prototyping

A way for 1st Gen. Telcos to handle the fast converging Information and Communication Technology (ICT) marketplace is to replace slow planning with rapid prototyping.

It is no secret that the whole information technology world is heading towards massive convergence of almost everything. The traditional bottom-up approach (from the infrastructure towards the market) is NOT the only way of handling convergence.

The era of driving communication innovations through the network infrastructure is gone, implementing IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) is not going to bring it back. The online equipment suppliers increasingly have no idea and no control of emerging online applications.

[edit] 2.1 Equipment based Convergence

Equipment suppliers drive convergence at the EQUIPMENT level (e.g. IMS, HGI, GAN). They do not understand the MARKET (e.g. Skype, MSN, You Tube, eBay are NOT from them).

Equipment driven convergence is EXPENSIVE (e.g. use new networks and systems components) and SLOW (e.g. requires complex conversion, integration with existing systems).

For example, while groups like Fixed-Mobile Convergence Alliance are having their conferences, others have been selling increasing number of VoIP minutes on THEIR networks using Wi-Fi handsets (like Nokia N95) already.

[edit] 2.2 Management based Convergence

Convergence is not just buying new equipment to implement a single IP based network, Net2MAX uses a top-down approach (from the market towards infrastructure) that complements (in established networks) or replaces (in new networks) the traditional equipment based convergence.

Net2MAX drives convergence at the MANAGEMENT level (e.g. applications, communities). It takes advantage of the latest MARKET intelligence and development (e.g. Skype, MSN, You Tube, eBay functionalities are already included).

Management driven convergence is LOW COST (e.g. use existing networks and system components) and FAST (e.g. already has complete infrastructure, billing, sales and support).

With a management platform, new services are deployed quickly and cheaply, then modified or abandoned depending on market feedback. Thus Net2MAX replaces traditional planning and design processes suitable for the old static communication markets with rapid prototyping processes suitable for the new dynamic communication markets.

For example, instead of attending convergence conferences, Net2MAX has been supporting Wi-Fi VoIP calls since 1st March 2004 so when the Nokia N95 came out it was supported immediately.

[edit] 3 Benefits to Communities

The Net2MAX Centre provides the local communities with DEVELOPMENT and DEPLOYMENT assistance in the following areas:

  1. Management Tools
  2. Default Services
  3. Trusted Body
  4. Expensive Resources

[edit] 3.1 Managment Tools

Currently the Net2MAX Centre gives the following 4 management tools to the local communities, so they can develop their own Community Platforms:

  1. One Number Integration
  2. Public Interface
  3. Multiple Pricing
  4. Community Customisation

Those tools are packaged together with Default Services (described below) to form a ready-to-use base management platform known as One Click Contact.

[edit] 3.2 Default Services

A Management Platform needs something to manage, the Net2MAX Centre already bundles a large number of default online services with each One Click Contact Function:

Communities are free to replace any of the default services bundled in each Function above. For example, they can use hotmail to replace the Group Email or use Your Tube to replace the Video Broadcast.

[edit] 3.3 Trusted Body

Net2MAX Centre acts as a stable and trusted organisation for all the communities, their members and the public in the country. It performs trusted operations and holds important information about the member centrally, enabling communication and commerce to be conducted in a reliable and accountable manner. For example:

  1. the registered phone numbers of the member
  2. the credit balance of the member
  3. the collection of payment from members
  4. the billing of member on behalf of other members
  5. the location of the servers that each member uses
  6. the transfer of members between communities (keeping the same set of phone numbers)
  7. the identification and protection of members (as required)

[edit] 3.4 Expensive Resources

Net2MAX Centre provides resources that are difficult for the local communities to acquire by themselves. For example:

  1. Telecommunication Licenses
  2. Short Access Numbers (e.g. 138813 in Australia)
  3. International Access Number (e.g. +800 4455 1234 worldwide)
  4. Cash Collection (e.g. through all Post Offices in Australia)
  5. Volume Pricing (e.g. online merchant fee of only 1.9% in Australia)
  6. 24 x 7 support (e.g. technical support, network monitoring)
  7. Localisation (e.g. software development, text to speech licenses)
  8. Core Infrastructure (e.g. 99.999% uptime core servers and networks)

[edit] 4 Structure

The Net2MAX Centre consists of 3 main groups:

  1. Software Group   -   Responsible for Localisation (translate text & voice, text to speech and speech to text engines, payment and banking integration, currency and timezone tuning, special community requirements).
  2. Systems Group   -   Responsible for Core Infrastructure (99.999% uptime, upgrading bandwidth, processing power and storage as required).
  3. Support Group   -   Resposible for Community Support and Government Liaison (24 x 7 support line, directory of communities, linking and sharing between communities).

Phone Number vs Email Address

Unlike membership of other online services which are based on the user's email addresses, Net2MAX is based on the user's phone number.

The government has a lot of control on the phone numbers of its country while has almost no control over the the email addresses. Net2MAX gives the government the opportunity to refresh its aging but well established phone number laws for the new online world.

Revenue Sources

Global Cooperation

Since each Net2MAX Centre has the exclusivity to and is responsible for the phone numbers of its own country, there is NO competition between Net2MAX Centres.

All Net2MAX Centres share a common set of 1CC platform source code worldwide. The improvements made by the Net2MAX Centre in one country is available to all the Net2MAX Centres globally.

For example, the Thai localisation done by the Net2MAX Centre in Thailand is available the Net2MAX Centre in Australia to service the Thai population in Australia.

Note that unlike Net2MAX Centres, the sharing of the contributions from the local Net2MAX Communities is optional, although that is highly encouraged as well.

[edit] 4.1 Net2MAX Centres

Net2MAX Centres facilitate the growth of Net2MAX and provide support for Net2MAX communities and members in different countries.

Although Net2MAX Limited provides some free trial accounts for a limited time to worldwide members, it does not have a direct commerical relationship with the Net2MAX Members. Net2MAX Members pay their local Net2MAX Centres in their own countries for the products and services they required.

[edit] 4.2 Net2MAX Communities

[edit] 5 Responsibility to Members

Net2MAX Members purchase products and services from Net2MAX Centres. Ultimately, it is the Net2MAX Centre that you pay your monthly fee to that is responsible for all aspects of the delivery of products and services to you.

However, Net2MAX Limited and other Net2MAX Centres can and will assist in making the Net2MAX experience a pleasant and rewarding one for ALL members worldwide, independent of which Net2MAX Centre the Net2MAX Members belong to.

Having all Net2MAX Centres working as a team for you is especially useful when your Net2MAX Community is spreaded out over several countries.

[edit] 6 Responsibility to Communities

Infrastructure provided by Net2MAX Centres has a target uptime of 99.99% for general members and 99.999% for special Net2MAX Communities that have higher uptime requirements.

Beside providing the necessary infrastructure to operate the Net2MAX Platform in a country, the Net2MAX Centre also deals with the government and related regulations - freeing the Communities in that country to focus on the application development and deployment without worrying about telecommunication licensing requirements.

Another responsibility a Net2MAX Centre performs is the collection of money from members, a lot of communities do not have the ability to collect money in an economical way. Net2MAX Centre can use its transaction volume to collect money economically.

[edit] 7 How to become a Net2MAX Centre

Net2MAX Centre is an exclusive operation - there is only one Net2MAX Centre for each country.

Net2MAX Centres are created in each country under license from Net2MAX Limited. Normally Net2MAX Communities are formed in a certain country WITHOUT its own Net2MAX Centre. These communities uses the service of already established Net2MAX Centres in other countries.

Once the communities in the same country have reached a certain size they can approach Net2MAX Limited to have a Net2MAX Centre created for that country. Normally, the Net2MAX Centre is joinly owned by Net2MAX Limited and local Net2MAX Communities.

There is no fixed corporate structure for Net2MAX Centres, it all depends on the specific country's telecommunication and finanical regulations as well as the abilities and resources of the the local communities.

[edit] 8 Free Peering

[edit] 8.1 ENUM

Net2MAX Centres can use the e164.name ENUM database to establish peering between each other.

Since calls are interconnected through the Internet, that are substantially cheaper than interconnection through traditional means.
