Introduction
Quality Improvements On New Network
OZtell is building a separate "simple" without baggage VoIP network from June 2006. The first phase got turned on about 3pm (Sydney, Australia) today, people receiving calls from and making calls to normal phones will experience much more consistent quality.
To test out the new quality, people can use the ECHO command from:
(1) Internet Phone - dial 0# as destination number to access the Member Menu then press 7
(2) Access Number - dial 0# as destination number to access member Menu then press 7
(3) Web PABX - use the echo: command (for advanced users)
Echo will allow you to see which part of the call is giving you quality problems.
Details on the Member Menu is available here: http://en.net2max.com/Access_Number_Usage#Member_Menu
We got 3 more phases to go with this new network. But the first phase we put in today is significant in fixing up those random quality problems that some have complained about before.
Each phase will take about 2 to 3 weeks, we expect each phase to improve both quality and reliability substantially.
SIP server IP address change
This ONLY affects customers using SIP servers. Those using IAX and H323 are NOT affected.
Even for SIP customers, MOST SIP DEVICES WILL PICK UP THE NEW IP ADDRESS AUTOMATICALLY, there is nothing for you to do in most cases.
1. IP Address Change
As part of the current upgrade (hopefully finish by April 2007), the IP addresses for the following SIP servers have changed.
sip.oztralia.com sip.syd.net2max.com
from
202.60.91.240
to
210.80.176.18
Note, sip2.oztralia.com and sip2.syd.net2max.com are currently NOT affected.
2. How it affects you
Most SIP devices will pick up the new IP address automatically, there is nothing for you to do in most cases.
However, in some cases, you might need to restart your VoIP devices manually in order for it to pick up the new IP address of the SIP server.
If some cases you will also need to adjust any firewall settings you may have to use the new 210.80.176.18 IP address instead of the old 202.60.91.240 IP address.
3. Final Cut Off
Both IP addresses will work until 9-Apr-2007, after that, only 210.80.176.18 will continue to work.
For people with non standard SIP devices, it is suggested you restart your SIP VoIP device before then - in case it failed to pick up the new IP address automatically.
If you have problems with the 9-Apr-2007 date, please contact support@oztell.com and we will see what we can do.
IAX Server IP address change
This ONLY affects customers using IAX servers. Those using SIP and H323 are NOT affected.
1. IP Address Change
As part of the current upgrade (hopefully finish by April 2007) we will be changing the IP address of an IAX Server. From 19-Mar-2007 onwards, the IP address for
iax.oztralia.com iax.syd.net2max.com
will change from
202.60.91.240
to
210.80.176.18
Note, iax2.oztralia.com and iax2.syd.net2max.com are currently NOT affected.
2. How it affects you
Although some VoIP devices will pick up the new IP address automatically, you will need to restart your VoIP devices manually in some cases in order for it to pick up the new IP address of the IAX server.
For example, if you are using Asterisk, you must EITHER reload iax OR restart asterisk.
If some cases you will also need to adjust any firewall settings you may have to use the new 210.80.176.18 IP address instead of the old 202.60.91.240 IP address.
3. Final Cut Off
Both IP addresses will work until 26-Mar-2007, after that only 210.80.176.18 will continue to work.
It is suggested you restart your IAX VoIP device before then - in case it failed to pick up the new IP address automatically.
If you have problems with the 26-Mar-2007 date, contact support@oztell.com and we will see what we can do.
+ sign support on internet phones
1. Introduction
Due to request by a member http://forum.net2max.com/index.php?s=&...ost&p=12095
You can now using the + sign in front of your phone numbers, when dialling on your Internet phone.
This is especially useful when you have a list of phone numbers stored inside your mobile phone (with a + in front of all those phone numbers) and you want to use the SAME phone number list for both mobile AND VoIP calls form your mobile.
2. Usage
There is nothing to do, just dial as usual, but now you can also dial with a + in front of the phone number (the + sign will be ignored when the phone number is processed).
Note: normally you will use this "+ in front" phone numbering along with "International Dial Format" set in your Web Dialler (which is the default setting).
Caller ID Selection on Internet Phones
1. Introduction
Just like you can select "Premium" under the Network Preference selection on the Web Dialer page, to display one of your phone numbers as the Caller ID when you are calling Normal Phone Numbers (like a call to 61290112121), you can now also select "Premium" to display one of your phone numbers as the Caller ID when you are calling Internet Phone Numbers (like a call to 89906090112121).
Why?
1. You might want to show a different call back phone number to different people, say differently for business and family. 2. You might like to display a real phone number (612xxx) rather than a internet only phone number (899xxx). 3. You might want to protect your privacy (so they cannot call you back directly without going through Web PABX filtering). 4. More people now have VoIP capable mobile phones, this will let them call you back on ONE number whether they are using VoIP or normal mobile voice network.
2. Usage
To specify your own Caller ID when calling internet phones, you need to add an entry on the Web Dialer page under section 3.1 "Use Network Number Directory".
1. The entry MUST start with 898 or 899 and it MUST use the Premium network. The Caller ID will be the phone number you selected to be display. 2. If you have an 898 or 899 entry BUT put in some OTHER VoIP network you defined (not Premium) then the Caller ID will be the phone number you selected to be displayed. 3. If you have an 898 or 899 entry BUT put in some OTHER PSTN network in the system (not Premium) then the Caller ID will be disabled (no Caller ID will be displayed). 4. If there is NO entry then your internet phone number 899060xxx will be set as Caller ID.
2.1 Examples
As standard you can only set your own Verified Phone Numbers and Local Phone Numbers as your Caller ID. But you have the flexibility to define the Destination (which calls to use this Caller ID feature on) and the Network Number (which network to pass the Caller ID on to).
(1) If you define:
898060 Premium 899060 Premium
then only the call to within the Net2MAX VoIP network will have the Caller ID you specified.
(2) If you define:
898 Premium 899 Premium
then ALL internet phone calls (including those through 3rd party VoIP networks) will have the Caller ID you specified.
Monthly Courtesy Calls Introduced
1. Introduction
OZtell already has the most advanced Prepaid Phone Credit system in the world, with automatic top-up, user based cash card generation, post office payment collection and automatic inter-account transfers.
We now relax the enforcement of prepaid calls slightly, by introduce Monthly Courtesy Calls to all voice calls. This feature is on trial and we will be adjusting it further as feedbacks come in.
Basically, we allow active members to make a limited number of calls to chargeable external phone networks each month even if their balance are zero or less - as a courtesy.
2. Limitations
Currently the Courtesy Calls limits are set to:
1. a maximum of 30 courtesy calls for each running 12 month period 2. a maximum of 3 calls per calendar month 3. a maximum of 10s for each call 4. all call attempts are counted (even calls to phones that are engaged or no answer) 5. successful call attempts are charged as usual (which will reduce the already negative balance further if those calls are chargeable) 6. chargeable call rates defined by Members (using Web Dialler or Web PABX) does not support courtesy calls (only calls charged directly by OZtell will work on zero or negative balances)
Courtesy calls should NOT be used for normal communications, it is mainly for new customers to test the functions of their new 1CC accounts before they put initial credits into their accounts and for existing customers to make quick test calls even when their balances are zero or less.
Note calls to official test numbers like +61290112121 does NOT normally require courtesy calls. Courtesy calls are mainly for making test calls to members' own mobile or land-line phones on external networks even when their balances are zero or negative.
