[edit] 1 Introduction
Net2MAX Access Number has a larger toll-free network, more features, and lower costs than any other telephone access provider in the world. Yet, taking advantage of those superior features is surprisingly easy!
This page assumed that you have already read the Access Number Features page and are now interested in get more usage details.
Using Access Number is a simple two-step process:
- Dial the Access Number
- Enter the Destination Number
For example, anyone anywhere in Australia can just dial the easy-to-remember nationwide Access Number 138813 and enter the destination phone number they wish to call in International format (e.g. 61 2 92176000), they will be then connected to that destination phone number (e.g. 9217 6000 in Sydney Australia) by the Access Number Function.
The same principle applies worldwide with different Access Numbers for each country.
[edit] 2 Public Voice Interface
Access Numbers are mainly used by Net2MAX members to receive incoming calls from the PUBLIC calling in worldwide.
Anyone, in more than 80 locations worldwide, can call from any phone (public phones, mobile phones, home phones etc.) to:
- the member's Internet Number
- the member's Web PABX
- any normal phone number that the member has verified as allowed
for the cost of a local call.
[edit] 2.1 Two-Step Calling
For the public to use Access Number it’s a simple 2-step process.
- Dial one of the Access Phone Numbers listed on the Access Number Liste.g. 138813
- Enter your preferred language e.g. 1 for English
Enter the phone number to be called in full IDD format (including country code and area code) followed by # (hash)
e.g. 61292176000#
In the example above, once the Net2MAX Member has verified it, the phone number +61 2 9217 6000 in Sydney Australia becomes a worldwide toll-free number. People can ring their local Access Number - say in Tokyo, Japan - and reach a Net2MAX Member in Sydney, Australia - without paying long distance call charges.
[edit] 2.2 Step 1: Dial Access Number
For most people, the calling process is generally the same – irrespective of whether they are calling a City Access Number, National Access Number or an International Access Number.
For the more advanced callers, these are the minor differences between the 3 types of Access Numbers:
[edit] 2.2.1 City Access Numbers
- One number per city.
- Callers in cities with City Access Numbers gain local call access.
- Callers in surrounding cities gain cheap long distance call access to those numbers.
- Can be accessed from any phone (public, landline, mobile).
- No time limit per call.
- No limit on the number of calls.
- City Access Numbers can be Enabled or Disabled by individual Net2MAX Members.
[edit] 2.2.2 National Access Numbers
- One number per country.
- Callers in countries with National Access Numbers gain local call access.
- Callers outside those countries may NOT have access to National Access Numbers.
- Can be accessed from almost any phone (public, landline, mobile).
- Maximum time limit of 10 minutes per call.
- No limit on the number of calls.
- National Access Numbers can be Enabled or Disabled by individual Net2MAX Members.
[edit] 2.2.3 International Access Numbers
- One number for multiple countries.
- Callers in countries with International Access Numbers gain local call access.
- Callers outside those countries may NOT have access to International Access Numbers.
- Can be accessed from the majority of phones (public, landline, mobile).
- Maximum time limit of 10 minutes per call.
- No limit on the number of calls.
- International Access Numbers can be Enabled or Disabled by individual Net2MAX Members.
[edit] 2.3 Step 2: Enter Destination Number
Access Number allows any type of phone device (internet phone, web PABX, normal phone) to be called using the same full international format (with country code, area code and the individual phone number).
Entering # after the destination number is optional. It speeds up the call by letting the system know that the caller has finished entering the destination phone number.
[edit] 2.3.1 Normal Phones
Destination numbers are just Normal Phone Numbers (landline and mobiles) in international phone number format (with country code, area code and a unique number for the specific phone within the area). For example, 61290112121 for phone number 90112121 in Sydney Australia.
ANY normal phone number can be accessed by entering its full international number format.. There is NO need to enter any IDD access prefix such as 00 or 0011.
For example:
- Destination 61290112121 is a landline phone number 90112121 in Sydney, Australia.
- Destination 61410300700 is a mobile phone number in Australia.
The call will generally be put through to the real landline or mobile corresponding to the normal phone number entered. However, Net2MAX Members can choose to transfer incoming calls to any normal phone, Internet phone or Web PABX.
Net2MAX Members simply verify their list of normal phone numbers and the public can then ring them easily via Access Numbers, by entering those normal phone numbers as destination numbers.
[edit] 2.3.2 Internet Phones
For advanced users (not recommended for the general public), it is possible to dial the Internet Phones of Net2MAX Members directly (without using Normal Phone Numbers).
Destination numbers for Internet phones (VoIP phones) are just like traditional everyday phone numbers (with country code, area code and a unique number for the specific phone within the area).
The country code is always 899 for Internet phones on the Net2MAX platform. The area code is a 3-digit number that depends on which phone network the member’s account is (e.g. 060).
All Net2MAX Members' Internet phones can be reached directly when the caller enters their destination phone number using the same international number format of country code, area code and phone number.
For example:
- Destination 89906090112121 is the Internet phone number of the member with account number 90112121 in area 060.
- Destination 89906090111010 is the Internet phone number of the member with account number 90111010 in area 060.
[edit] 2.3.3 Web PABXs
For advanced users (not recommended for the general public), it is possible to dial the Web PABXs of Net2MAX Members directly.
Destination numbers for automatic answering devices (Web PABXs) are just like everyday phone numbers (with country code, area code and a unique number for that specific device within the area).
The country code is always 898 for automatic answering devices on the Net2MAX platform. The area code is a 3 digit number that will change depending on which phone network the member's account is (e.g. 060).
For example:
- Destination 89806090112121 is the Web PABX of the member with account number 90112121 in area 060.
- Destination 89806090111010 is the Web PABX of the member with account number 90111010 in area 060.
[edit] 2.3.4 Membership Registration
Public can dial 1 as the destination phone number (1#) to have their phone number registered and thus becoming a Net2MAX member.
[edit] 3 Member Voice Interface
Access Numbers can also be used by Net2MAX Members to make outgoing calls worldwide.
As with the general public, Net2MAX Members can call from any phone (public phones, mobile phones, home phones etc.) to:
- another member's Internet Number
- another member's Web PABX
- normal phone numbers that are Verified Destination Numbers
for the cost of a local call.
Additionally, Net2MAX Members can call from any phone to “members-only” call destinations:
- normal phone numbers that are NOT verified by members
- the members-only menu of special services available to Net2MAX Members
[edit] 3.1 Non-Member Destinations
Public are only allowed to called Verified Destination Numbers defined by the members. Members however, can call any phone number through the Access Number.
To make calls to these non-members destinations, the first 2 steps are exactly the same as those for a public caller. Members must then take the additional step of supplying their account details. The 3 steps for Members are:
- Dial one of the access phone numbers listed on the Access Number List
e.g. 138813
- Enter your preferred language
e.g. 1 for English
Enter the phone number you want to call in full IDD format (including country code and area code) followed by # (hash)
e.g. 61292176011#
- Enter your Account Number followed by # (hash), then your PIN followed by # (hash)
e.g. 123# 456#
In the example above, the Net2MAX Member will be connected to phone number +61 2 92176011 even though it is not a Verified Destination Number.
[edit] 3.2 Member Voice Menu
If the destination number entered is 0 (zero) the caller will be connected to the special Net2MAX "Member Menu".
The Member Menu has the following options:
- Press 1 - to dial another destination number
- Press 2 - to check your account balance
- Press 3 - to change your password
- Press 4 - to top up your account
- Press 5 - to verify a phone number
- Press 6 - to speak to an operator
- Press 7 - to perform an echo test
- Press 8 - to check voice messages
- Press 9 - to exit the system
If a member calls in from an Access Number with an Access Charge, then the Access Charge will apply.
For all options other than option ‘1’, there is no Destination Charge.
If option ‘1’ is taken, then your Web Dialer settings will be used for the destination number you dial, allowing you to make phone calls using features such as Network Number Conversion and Automatic Rate Selection.
[edit] 3.3 Member Call Back
In some cases it is cheaper to use your an alternative carrier to call the Access Number instead of using your own carrier.
[edit] 4 Member Web Interface
The Net2MAX Message Portal provides an easy to use environment for Members to enable and configure their Access Numbers.
When you are on the Control Panel’s Access Number page, click on "Help" at the top of that page for online help specific to Access Number. The sections on this page allow you to manage your Access Numbers, Verified Destination Numbers and Verified Origination Numbers – as further detailed below.
[edit] 4.1 Enabling Access Numbers
You must enable Access Numbers in the locations you want. This prevents callers from undesirable locations dialling you via Access Numbers.
You can enable any of the Access Numbers on the Access Number List. The "Enabled Access Numbers" section lists all current Access Numbers that you have enabled. You can also disable those numbers at any time.
Access Numbers Currently Enabled (Access Number List)
- You will see a list of access numbers currently enabled for your account with the "Disable" button on the right hand side. Clicking on this button will remove the number from the list which means the access number will no longer be usable.
- The price shown is the connection fee chargeable every time the access number is used. Example: $0.09 means you will be charged 9c every time you use one of the access numbers in 61 regional Australian cities.
Enable New Access Numbers
- To enable an access number, simply click on the "Choose an Access Phone Number" drop down box. A pop-up window for the confirmation will appear.
[edit] 4.2 Verifying Phone Numbers
Verification of your phone numbers on external (non-Net2MAX) network allows you to indicate to Net2MAX that you currently OWN those phone numbers and will use those phone numbers to interact with Net2MAX.
In order to confirm that you still own a certain phone number in the future, you MUST verify your phone number at least once every six months.
Verification is a simple 2 step process:
- DEFINE the phone number you want to verify
- IDENTIFY that the phone number belongs to you
Note:
- You are only allowed to verify phone numbers that belong to you directly. That is, they are under your name and you pay for them.
- You must delete immediately any phone number that does not belong to you anymore.
- You must verify all your phone numbers at least once every 6 months.
- Net2MAX will check that you still own your number from time to time using various means, including but not limited to
- requesting copies of the current phone bill for that phone number
- making calls to that phone number and asking you to provide identification information
- asking you to verify the same number again
[edit] 4.2.1 Define Your Phone Numbers
When you define your phone numbers, you need to indicate to Net2MAX, how it will respond when your verified phone number is used to either MAKE calls or RECEIVE calls:
- when it is used by you calling into the Net2MAX platform from your verified phone number, it is called a Verified Origination Number.
- when it is used by your callers calling you on your verified phone number from their phones, it is called a Verified Destination Number.
Members can define and manage their list of Verified Phone Numbers at any time from the web (under the Access Number page).
[edit] 4.2.2 Verified Destination Numbers
Destination Numbers Currently Verified
- This is the place to view your current active and inactive verified destination numbers.
Register New Destination Numbers
- To insert a number, type in the number in International Format in the "Register New Destination Numbers". Example: 61292176000 where 61 is the country code for Australia, 2 is the area code for NSW and 92176000 is the actual number. Once the number is added, it will need to be verified by ringing from the number you just added to one of the enabled access numbers, then press 1 when prompted to select the language, and 0# when prompted to enter the destination number. Please note: the Caller ID must not be blocked.
- There are 5 types of answering mode available:
- Fax Machine (PDF). All incoming faxes to the number will be delivered to the email address as a .PDF attachment
- Fax Machine (TIFF). All incoming faxes to the number will be delivered to the email address as a. TIFF attachment
- Fax PABX allows the number to function as a Fax number (.PDF) as well as a WebPABX based voice number
- Internet Phone. All incoming calls will be forwarded to your 899 060 Internet Phone Number
- WebPABX. All incoming calls will be answered based on the set up in the WebPABX's Voice Greeting
To define Verified Destination Numbers:
- Specify the Verified Destination Number in full international format (with country code and area code).
- Select Answering Mode:
- Internet Phone - the call to go to your Internet Phone.
- Web PABX - the call to go to your Web PABX.
- Fax to Email - the call to receive as fax images in your email box.
- Fax PABX - if fax goes to email otherwise goes to Web PABX.
- Entered Destination Number - the call to be forwarded externally to that Verified Destination Number.
- If the "Status" shows as "Inactive" then you will need to identify that you own the Verified Destination Number by following the Identify Your Phone Numbers instructions below.
The default "Answering Mode" is "Entered Destination Number", which means that Net2MAX will ring the defined Verified Destination Number directly.
Since Local Numbers are internal to Net2MAX, all your Local Numbers are defined and verified as Verified Destination Number automatically. If you have removed the Local Number from the Verified Destination Number list then you can add it back by defining it again WITHOUT needing to verify it.
[edit] 4.2.3 Verified Origination Numbers
- Origination Numbers Currently Verified
- This is the place to view your current active and inactive verified origination numbers.
- Register New Origination Numbers
- To insert a number, type in the number in International Format in the "Register New Origination Numbers".
- There are 3 types of answering mode available:
- WebPABX. All calls originating from this verified number will be answered based on the account holder's WebPABX.
- Entered Destination Number. The system will ask you for the destination number to dial, and then ring that number directly.
- Call Back. This feature enables the caller to make calls without having to pay for the call charges to ring the access number and the destination number (the owner of the account will be liable for all call charges). To use it, the caller needs to ring the enabled access number and a "Please wait for a Call Back" prompt will be played. Simply hang up and the system will ring the verified number back.
- There are 3 types of answering mode available:
- The Call Back Number does not need to be the same as the Calling Number. However, the format must be the same as what the Web Dialer uses. Example: if the Web Dialer uses International Dial Format (default dialling format), then the Call Back Number must also be in International format.
To define Verified Origination Numbers:
- Specify the Verified Origination Number in full international format (with country code, area code).
- Select Answering Mode:
- Entered Destination Number - the system to ask you for the destination number to dial, and then ring that number directly.
- Call Back - this is the SAME as "Entered Destination Number" above, but the system will NOT answer your call, it remembers your calling number and calls you back for you to enter the destination number.
- Web PABX - the call to go straight to Web PABX.
- If the "Status" shows as "Inactive" then you will need to identify that you own the Verified Destination Number by following the Identify Your Phone Numbers instructions below.
The default "Answering Mode" is "Entered Destination Number".
Note:
- The status field for phone numbers you defined will initially be set to "Inactive" if you have NOT performed an Verification operation on them.
- If a phone number stays "Inactive" for more that 7 days, then Net2MAX reserves the right to remove it from your Verified Origination or Destination Number list at any time without notice.

- If you are using the Phone Identification method and it is not working, ensure that the Access Numbers you are using for identification is enabled (your Net2MAX Community might not have enabled that Access Number for you by default).
- Refer to Access Number Help for assistance.
SMS Identification is performed by:
- 1. Sending an SMS into one of the SMS Numbers with the phone that you need to verify
- 2. In the SMS put in the message (Axxx yyy) (V)
- For example (A123456 789) (V)
- where 123456 is your account number 789 is your PIN
- For example (A123456 789) (V)
- 1. Sending an SMS into one of the SMS Numbers with the phone that you need to verify
