1 Introduction

Net2MAX Access Number has a larger toll-free network, more features, and lower costs than any other telephone access number provider in the world. Here we will show you how easy it is to take advantage of this global network whether you are a Net2MAX member or not!

This page assumes that you have already read the Access Number Features page and are now interested in get more usage details.

  1. Non-Members should read the Non-Member Phone Interface section only.
  2. Members should read this whole page (sorry, but if you want to drive a Ferrari you need to learn how to change gears!).

2 NON-MEMBER Phone Interface

Non-Members can contact Net2MAX Members toll-free by calling into Access Numbers worldwide.

Using Access Number is a simple two-step process:

  1. Dial Access Number
  2. Enter Destination Number

Image:AccessPhoneModule_Operation.gif

STEP 1: Dial Access Number

  1. Dial one of the Access Phone Numbers listed on the Access Number List   (e.g. 138813)
  2. Enter your preferred language   (e.g. 1 for English)

STEP 2: Enter Destination Number

  1. Enter the phone number you want to contact in full IDD format (including country code and area code) followed by # (hash)   (e.g. 61292176000)

Detailed Description

Anyone anywhere in Australia can just dial the nationwide Access Number (e.g. 138813) and then enter the destination phone number they wish to call in International Direct Dial format (e.g. 61 2 9217 6000), they will be then connected to that destination phone number (e.g. 9217 6000 in Sydney Australia) by the Access Number Function. The same principle applies worldwide with different Access Numbers for each country.

Important Notes

  1. Net2MAX Members you are calling MAY NOT have enabled the Destination Numbers you are trying to enter into the Access Number Function. In those cases, you will NOT get through to those Net2MAX Members.

  2. The Destination Number you entered is an intermediate number, you will NOT KNOW whether the Net2MAX Member has answered your call on what phone number, with what device (a normal phone, a internet phone or a PABX) and on which phone network.

2.1   Step 1:   Dial Access Number

Access Number provides 3 levels of toll-free numbers to suit different call durations.

Image:AccessPhoneModule_Operation1.gif

Callers should try the City Access Number in their local city first (longest toll-free call duration), then the National Access Number for their country (medium toll-free call duration) and finally the International Access Number (shortest toll-free call duration).

The actual calling process for all 3 types of Access Numbers is the same, the minor differences are listed below.

2.1.1 City Access Numbers

A City Access Number is a local phone number in the caller's own city or town. It can be dialled, just like any other local number in that city, for the cost of a local call only.

Worldwide, Net2MAX has more than 80 (and growing) cities with Access Numbers, so more people can call you by only paying the cost of a local call. You can also use these Access Numbers to make calls in all those cities yourself.

City Access Numbers are the preferred Access Numbers to use since they allow UNLIMITED talk time.

The full list is at City Access Number List.

Characteristics:

  1. One number per city.
  2. Callers in cities with City Access Numbers gain local call access.
  3. Callers in surrounding cities gain cheap long distance call access to those numbers.
  4. Can be accessed from any phone (public, landline, mobile).
  5. No time limit per call.
  6. Net2MAX Members can individually enable or disable receiving calls from City Access Numbers.

2.1.2 National Access Numbers

National Access Numbers can be accessed for the cost of a local call to the caller, from anywhere across a whole country, not just a city. They are sometimes called "free-call numbers" (where there is no charge at all to the caller) or "toll-free numbers" (where there is no long distance charge to the caller).

Having one National Access Number for a whole country is also useful when a Net2MAX Member is away from her/his home town and doesn't want to waste time looking up the individual City Access Number for the city they are in.

The full list is at National Access Number List.

Characteristics:

  1. One number per country.
  2. Callers in countries with National Access Numbers gain local call or free call access.
  3. Callers outside those countries may NOT have access to National Access Numbers.
  4. Can be accessed from almost any phone (public, landline, mobile).
  5. Maximum time limit of 10 minutes per call.
  6. Net2MAX Members can individually enable or disable receiving calls from National Access Numbers.

2.1.3 International Access Numbers

Net2MAX is the only phone provider in the world to offer its members a SINGLE international toll-free phone number (+800 4455 1234) across MULTIPLE nations, without any setup or monthly fees. (Note: a small usage fee applies)

This is useful for organisations that operate in several countries. For example, those who advertise on Satellite TV can provide the same single phone number to TV audiences in different countries.

The full list is at International Access Number List.

Characteristics:

  1. One number for multiple countries.
  2. Callers in countries with International Access Numbers gain local call or free call access.
  3. Callers outside listed countries will NOT have access to International Access Numbers.
  4. Can be accessed from phones with IDD enabled (public, landline, mobile).
  5. Maximum time limit of 10 minutes per call.
  6. Net2MAX Members can individually enable or disable receiving calls from International Access Numbers.

2.2   Step 2:   Enter Destination Number

In step 2 of the process, non-members enter the Destination Phone Number of the member (in full international format with country code and area code in front) into the Access Number Function.

Destination numbers are just normal everyday Phone Numbers (landline and mobiles) in international phone number format (with country code, area code and a unique number for the specific phone within the area).

For example:

  1. Destination Number 61290112121 for phone number 90112121 in Sydney, Australia.
  2. Destination Number 85223120000 for phone number 23120000 in Hong Kong, China.

Only the full international number format is required. There is NO need to enter any International Direct Dial (IDD) prefix such as 00 or 0011.

Entering # after the destination number is optional, but it speeds up the call by letting the system know that the caller has finished entering the destination phone number.

For example:

  1. Entering 61290112121 will work
  2. Entering 61290112121# will have a faster response

Image:AccessPhoneModule_Operation6.gif

Once the Destination Phone Number is accepted, the caller will be transferred to the member's Normal Phone, Internet Phone, Web PABX or Fax Machine.

2.2.1 Normal Phones

Calls to Access Numbers are generally transferred to the real land-line or mobile phone number corresponding to the Destination Number entered.

For example:

  1. Destination Number 61290112121 will transfer the call to a landline phone number 90112121 in Sydney, Australia.
  2. Destination Number 61410300700 will transfer the call to a mobile phone number 0410300700 in Australia.

However, Net2MAX Members can choose to transfer incoming calls to any other Normal phone, Internet phone or Web PABX.

For example:

  1. Destination Number 61290112121 will transfer the call to a land line phone number 92176018 in Sydney, Australia.
  2. Destination Number 61410300700 will transfer the call to a land line phone number 92176018 in Sydney, Australia.

2.2.2 Internet Phones

The Destination Numbers entered into Access Numbers are increasingly going to Internet Phones (like Skype, MSN, GTalk, SIP etc.).

For example:

  1. Destination Number 61290112121 could be transferred to johnsmith@skype.com
  2. Destination Number 61292176000 could be transferred to 61290112121@sip.syd.net2max.com

It is up to the member to decide which Internet Phone account incoming calls from Access Number will be transferred to.

2.2.3 Web PABXs

The most powerful use of Access Number is to transfer the incoming calls into the member's Web PABX. Web PABX provides highly intelligent and individual handling of the calls for a specific Destination Number.

For example:

  1. Destination Number 61290112121 could be transferred to an audio conference
  2. Destination Number 61292176000 could be transferred to a text to speech engine reading out the latest news

The member can define rules for processing of calls (record voice messages, join audio conferences, access web sites), for transferring of calls (to normal or internet phones), for charging of calls (billing the caller for the call duration) and for transforming of calls (text to speech, SMS, Instant Message).

2.2.4 Fax Machines

Numerous Access Numbers on the Access Number List have built in fax support for Destination Numbers entered into them.

Net2MAX members can transfer the callers of a specific destination phone number to a fax machine, which will receive the fax and forward the fax as an image file (PDF or TIFF) to the Net2MAX member's email box.

It is also possible to enable automatic fax detection, so calls from Access Numbers can be handled by BOTH the fax machine and Web PABX. The calling device (fax or voice) will automatically identified and the call sent to the appropriate answering device.

For example:

  1. Destination Number 61290112121 would always transfer calls to fax machine directly without fax detection
  2. Destination Number 61292176000 would transferred to fax machine only after fax detection is successful, otherwise the call is sent to Web PABX

2.2.5 Membership Registration

Non-members can also enter 1 as the destination phone number to have their phone number registered and thus becoming a Net2MAX member.

Please refer to Net2MAX Registration for more details.

3 MEMBER Computer Interface

Like all other Net2MAX Functions Access Number is enabled and configured by logging into the member's Universal Portal e.g. http://www.net2max.com/login

3.1 Access Numbers

Image:enabled_access_numbers.gif

3.1.1 Enable New Access Numbers

You must enable Access Numbers in the locations you want. This prevents callers from undesirable locations dialling you via Access Numbers.

To enable an access number, simply click on the "Choose an Access Phone Number" drop down box. A pop-up window for the confirmation will appear.

You can enable any of the Access Numbers on the Access Number List.

3.1.2 Already Enabled Access Numbers

The "Enabled Access Numbers" section lists all current Access Numbers that you have enabled. You can also disable those numbers at any time.

You will see a list of access numbers currently enabled for your account with the "Disable" button on the right hand side. Clicking on this button will remove the number from the list which means the access number will no longer be usable.
The price shown is the connection fee chargeable every time the access number is used. Example: $0.09 means you will be charged 9c every time you use one of the access numbers in 61 regional Australian cities.

3.1.3 Contribute Access Numbers

Access Number coverage is substantially increased by allowing members' own phone numbers from ANY phone number services (land-line, mobile, VoIP) to be used as part of the Access Number network.

There are locations in the world where Net2MAX members might want an Access Number, but where Net2MAX does not yet have one. In those cases, members can go to our competitors and, by using the External Phone Account feature of Web PABX, map our competitors' dial-in phone numbers into the Net2MAX platform.

Any Net2MAX member can contribute phone numbers they owned to the Access Number network. They can also generate revenue for themselves in the process. It is Access Number contributor who decide how much to charge the users and how long the phone calls can last for.

  1. Check to see whether there is already an Access Number in your local area. if there is already one, you need to give reason why you want to have another one e.g. increase capacity, increase quality, increase call duration, lower price etc.
  2. Fill in the input boxes on the web page:
  1. The Phone Number you want to contribute in International Format e.g. 61290112121
  2. The Type of Phone Number e.g. PSTN, ISDN, SIP etc.
  3. The Number of Channels e.g. 1, 2, 10 etc.
  4. Contribution Duration e.g. 12 months (only an estimation is required)
  5. Price per call e.g. 9c per call
  6. Maximum Duration of call e.g. 60 minutes

3.2 Destination Numbers

Net2MAX members can turn any normal phone numbers (landline and mobile) that they own into worldwide toll-free numbers by setting them up as Verified Destination Numbers.

Anyone in the world can made toll-free calls to Verified Destination Numbers, by simply entering them when prompted by the system for a destination number.

In the below example, the number +61 2 9217 6000 (in Sydney Australia) is a Verified Destination Number. Callers can reach the Net2MAX member toll-free by first dialing the Access Number 138813, and then entering 61292176000.

Once a member has verified that she really does own certain phone numbers, callers worldwide can then enter those Verified Destination Numbers into Access Numbers worldwide in order to contact the members without incurring any long distance call charges.

Image:verified_destination_numbers.gif

3.2.1 Insert New Destination Numbers

To insert one of your phone numbers (mobile, land-line, VoIP) into your Destination Number list, you have to type in that number in International Format under the Destination Number then press the Insert button.

For Example: Enter "61290112121" as the Destination Number, where 61 is the country code for Australia, 2 is the area code for NSW and 90112121 is the actual number.

3.2.2 Verify Inserted Destination Numbers

The Destination Number you inserted will be inactive to start, it needs to be verified that it really belongs to you. The only exception to this rule are the Local Numbers you got from Net2MAX, which will be active immediately after you have inserting them as Destination Numbers.

There are a number of ways to verify that you really own the Destination Number you inserted:

Instant Verification
1. Net2MAX Calls you on the Destination Number
2. Net2MAX SMS you on the Destination Number

Delay Verification

3. You Call Net2MAX from the Destination Number
4. You SMS Net2MAX from the Destination Number

Note:

  1. You are only allowed to verify phone numbers that belong to you directly. That is, they are under your name and you pay for them.
  2. You must delete immediately any phone number that does not belong to you any more.
  3. You must verify all your phone numbers at least once every 6 months, in order to confirm that you are still the owner continuously.
  4. Net2MAX reserves the right to check that you still own a certain Destination Number from time to time using various means, including but not limited to
    • requesting copies of the current phone bill for that phone number
    • making calls to that phone number and asking you to provide identification information
    • asking you to verify the same number again within a certain time frame

1. Net2MAX Calls you on the Destination Number

Available to Beta Customers Only

2. Net2MAX SMS you on the Destination Number

Available to Beta Customers Only

3. You Call Net2MAX from the Destination Number

Before using one of the identification methods below, you must have the phone number you wanted to verify ALREADY defined (as above). You also need to Enable the access number you are going to dial.

Phone Identification is performed by:

1. Dialling into one of the Access Numbers with the EXACT phone that you need to verify
2. Entering zero (0) as the Destination Phone Number, followed by #, to go to the Member Menu
3. Supplying your account number and your PIN
4. Selecting the "Verify Phone Number" option

Note:

  1. Some phone numbers, like the one that you provided by phone or SMS during the joining process, would have been both Defined and Identified for you automatically. If you joined via the web, then your phone number will be Defined but NOT yet Identified, you have to identify it yourself.
  2. If you are using the Phone Identification method and it is not working, ensure that the Access Numbers you are using for identification is enabled (your Net2MAX Community might not have enabled that Access Number for you by default).
  3. Refer to Access Number Help for assistance.

Ring from the number you just added to one of the enabled access numbers, then press 1 when prompted to select the language, and 0# when prompted to enter the destination number. Please note: the Caller ID must not be blocked.

4. You SMS Net2MAX from the Destination Number

1. Sending an SMS into one of the SMS Numbers with the phone that you need to verify
2. In the SMS put in the message (Axxx yyy) (V)
For example (A123456 789) (V)
where 123456 is your account number 789 is your PIN

3.2.3 Set Answering Mode for Destination Numbers

When you define your phone numbers, you need to indicate to Net2MAX, how it will respond when your verified phone number is used to either MAKE calls or RECEIVE calls:

  1. when it is used by you calling into the Net2MAX platform from your verified phone number, it is called a Verified Origination Number.
  2. when it is used by your callers calling you on your verified phone number from their phones, it is called a Verified Destination Number.

Members can define and manage their list of Verified Phone Numbers at any time from the web (under the Access Number page).

This is the place to view your current active and inactive verified destination numbers.

There are 5 types of answering mode available:
  1. Fax Machine (PDF). All incoming faxes to the number will be delivered to the email address as a .PDF attachment
  2. Fax Machine (TIFF). All incoming faxes to the number will be delivered to the email address as a. TIFF attachment
  3. Fax PABX allows the number to function as a Fax number (.PDF) as well as a WebPABX based voice number
  4. Internet Phone. All incoming calls will be forwarded to your 899 060 Internet Phone Number
  5. WebPABX. All incoming calls will be answered based on the set up in the WebPABX's Voice Greeting

To define Verified Destination Numbers:

  1. Specify the Verified Destination Number in full international format (with country code and area code).
  2. Select Answering Mode:
    1. Internet Phone - the call to go to your Internet Phone.
    2. Web PABX - the call to go to your Web PABX.
    3. Fax to Email - the call to receive as fax images in your email box.
    4. Fax PABX - if fax goes to email otherwise goes to Web PABX.
    5. Entered Destination Number - the call to be forwarded externally to that Verified Destination Number.
  3. If the "Status" shows as "Inactive" then you will need to identify that you own the Verified Destination Number by following the Identify Your Phone Numbers instructions below.

The default "Answering Mode" is "Entered Destination Number", which means that Net2MAX will ring the defined Verified Destination Number directly.

Since Local Numbers are internal to Net2MAX, all your Local Numbers are defined and verified as Verified Destination Number automatically. If you have removed the Local Number from the Verified Destination Number list then you can add it back by defining it again WITHOUT needing to verify it.

3.3 Origination Numbers

Image:verified_origination_numbers.gif

Origination Numbers Currently Verified
This is the place to view your current active and inactive verified origination numbers.
Register New Origination Numbers
To insert a number, type in the number in International Format in the "Register New Origination Numbers". Example: 61292176000 where 61 is the country code for Australia, 2 is the area code for NSW and 92176000 is the actual number. Once the number is added, it will need to be verified by ringing from the number you just added to one of the enabled access numbers, then press 1 when prompted to select the language, and 0# when prompted to enter the destination number. Please note: the Caller ID must not be blocked.
There are 3 types of answering mode available:
  1. WebPABX. All calls originating from this verified number will be answered based on the account holder's WebPABX.
  2. Entered Destination Number. The system will ask you for the destination number to dial, and then ring that number directly.
  3. Call Back. This feature enables the caller to make calls without having to pay for the call charges to ring the access number and the destination number (the owner of the account will be liable for all call charges). To use it, the caller needs to ring the enabled access number and a "Please wait for a Call Back" prompt will be played. Simply hang up and the system will ring the verified number back.

Alternatively, a Verified Origination Number can be set up so members making a call from that verified phone number can go straight to their Web PABX , WITHOUT having to enter a destination phone number.

Image:AccessPhoneModule_Trust1.gif

Since no authentication and no destination number are required, this turns a normally 3-step process into only 1 step.

The Call Back Number does not need to be the same as the Calling Number. However, the format must be the same as what the Web Dialer uses. Example: if the Web Dialer uses International Dial Format (default dialling format), then the Call Back Number must also be in International format.

To define Verified Origination Numbers:

  1. Specify the Verified Origination Number in full international format (with country code, area code).
  2. Select Answering Mode:
    1. Entered Destination Number - the system to ask you for the destination number to dial, and then ring that number directly.
    2. Call Back - this is the SAME as "Entered Destination Number" above, but the system will NOT answer your call, it remembers your calling number and calls you back for you to enter the destination number.
    3. Web PABX - the call to go straight to Web PABX.
  3. If the "Status" shows as "Inactive" then you will need to identify that you own the Verified Destination Number by following the Identify Your Phone Numbers instructions below.

The default "Answering Mode" is "Destination Number".

Note:

  1. The status field for phone numbers you defined will initially be set to "Inactive" if you have NOT performed a Verification operation on them.
  2. If a phone number stays "Inactive" for more than 7 days, then Net2MAX reserves the right to remove it from your Verified Origination or Destination Number list at any time without notice.

Normally, when a destination phone number is a normal phone, the caller has to supply account information to the system in an extra third step - since that call will be charged. The only exception to this is when the normal number is a "Verified Destination Number".

With Verified Origination Numbers, members calling from those numbers can make calls to any phone number (even to NON-Verified Destination Numbers), WITHOUT being asked to supply account information.

Since no authentication is required, this turns what is normally a 3-step process

Image:AccessPhoneModule_Operation2.gif

into only 2 steps.

Image:AccessPhoneModule_Trust2.gif

3.3.1 Insert New Origination Numbers

3.3.2 Verify Inserted Origination Numbers

1. Net2MAX Calls you on the Destination Number

Available to Beta Customers Only

2. Net2MAX SMS you on the Destination Number

Available to Beta Customers Only

3. You Call Net2MAX from the Destination Number

3.3.3 Set Answering Mode for Origination Numbers

4 MEMBER Phone Interface

Access Numbers can also be used by Net2MAX Members to make outgoing calls worldwide.

Image:AccessPhoneNumber_Out.gif

As with the general public, Net2MAX Members can call from any phone (public phones, mobile phones, home phones etc.) to:

  1. another member's Internet Number
  2. another member's Web PABX
  3. normal phone numbers that are Verified Destination Numbers

for the cost of a local call.

Additionally, Net2MAX Members can call from any phone to “members-only” call destinations:

  1. normal phone numbers that are NOT verified by members
  2. the members-only menu of special services available to Net2MAX Members

4.1 Non-Member Destinations

Public are only allowed to called Verified Destination Numbers defined by the members. Members however, can call any phone number through the Access Number.

To make calls to these non-members destinations, the first 2 steps are exactly the same as those for a public caller. Members must then take the additional step of supplying their account details. The 3 steps for Members are:

  1. Dial one of the access phone numbers listed on the Access Number List
    e.g. 138813

  2. Enter your preferred language
    e.g. 1 for English

Enter the phone number you want to call in full IDD format (including country code and area code) followed by # (hash)
    e.g. 61292176011#

  3. Enter your Account Number followed by # (hash), then your PIN followed by # (hash)
    e.g. 123# 456#

Image:AccessPhoneModule_Operation2.gif

In the example above, the Net2MAX Member will be connected to phone number +61 2 92176011 even though it is not a Verified Destination Number.

4.2 Member Destinations

When a caller enters a destination number that has NOT been verified, the caller will be prompted to provide account details to complete the call. This allows the call to be charged to an account. It is similar to using a “phone card”, It is a 3-step process.

Image:AccessPhoneModule_Operation2.gif

In the example above, the number +612-9217-6011 is NOT a Verified Destination Number. After a caller dials the Access Number 138813 and enters 61292176011, he/she will be prompted to enter the account number and corresponding PIN.

Since only Net2MAX members have valid accounts, steps 2 & 3 allows calls to non-verified normal phone numbers via an Access Number by persons trusted and authorised by the Net2MAX member.

4.3 Member Voice Menu

If the destination number entered is 0 (zero) the caller will be connected to the special Net2MAX "Member Menu".

Image:AccessPhoneModule_Operation3.gif

The Member Menu has the following options:

Press 1 - to dial another destination number
Press 2 - to check your account balance
Press 3 - to change your password
Press 4 - to top up your account
Press 5 - to verify a phone number
Press 6 - to speak to an operator
Press 7 - to perform an echo test
Press 8 - to check voice messages
Press 9 - to exit the system

If a member calls in from an Access Number with an Access Charge, then the Access Charge will apply.

For all options other than option ‘1’, there is no Destination Charge.

If option ‘1’ is taken, then your Web Dialer settings will be used for the destination number you dial, allowing you to make phone calls using features such as Network Number Conversion and Automatic Rate Selection.

4.4 Member Call Back

In most cases it is cheaper to use an alternative carrier to call the Access Number instead of using your own carrier.

Call-back allows you to make calls from your phone WITHOUT paying the telephone carrier of that phone. This feature is only available to Net2MAX Members.

Call-Back is a 2-step process:

  1. You call in to a Call-back Access Number and then hang up.
  2. The system calls you back and then you enter the real phone number you wished to call.

For example, you want to make a call from your phone 0410 300 700 to 0420 311 711. First, you make a phone call to a free call number (e.g. 1800 50 40 41 in Australia) and then hang up - your origination phone number (e.g. 0410 300 700) is detected by our system and that call will not be charged to your 0410 300 700 account. Within seconds, the system will call you back on your origination number 0410 300 700. You can the answer the call and then enter the destination phone 0420 311 711 into the system and get connected to 0420 311 711.

Call Back Charges

Although you do NOT have to pay the carrier of your phone number 0410300700 for the call to 0420311711, you have to pay for the TWO calls made by the system:

  1. Call back from the system to your origination phone number 0410300700
  2. Call from the system to the destination number 0420311711

With Web Dialler you can use any VoIP provider worldwide to make those 2 calls, which in a lot of cases are much cheaper than the 1 call through the native carrier of you phone.

Verified Origination Number

You can only use the Call Back feature if your phone number has been verified as an origination number. You can check the verification status of your phone number by visiting the Access Number web page.

Image:verified_phone_numbers_callback.gif

There are 2 ways of using Call Back:

  1. Using a dedicated Call-back Access Number
  2. Using a normal Access Number

1. Using Call-back Access Number
Please refer to the Call Back Access Number List for a list of dedicated call-back numbers worldwide.
Dedicated Call-back Access Numbers allow ANY verified origination number to make use of the call back feature - even if they have NOT been set up with Call Back mode (as shown below).
Image:verified_phone_numbers_callback0.gif
2. Using Normal Access Number
If there is NO dedicated Call-back Access Number in your country, you still make use of the Call Back feature by setting up your Verified Origination Number to receive call back when you call into a normal Access Number.
